David Lester

Former Chief Strategy Officer, London Stock Exchange Group

David is the former Chief Strategy Officer of the London Stock Exchange Group, leading all M&A and the development of start-up and other accelerated growth initiatives. David was a member of the Group Executive Committee and previously served as the LSE’s CIO and Group Director of Information and Data Services. He was a core member of the team that saw the market capitalisation of the business grow from <£1bn in 2001 to over £15bn today.

David has a broad range of board, management, corporate transaction and project delivery and concept experience across the financial markets exchange, clearing, settlement, data and technology industries. David also served as Chairman of FTSE Russell, the LSE’s global index business and CEO and then Chairman of Turquoise, the LSE’s pan-European trading platform for equities built in partnership with major equities banking clients. During his tenure, he was also a member of the Boards of MillenniumIT, Borsa Italiana, GlobeSettle CSD, Russell Investments (c. $250bn AUM) and CurveGlobal, the fixed income traded derivatives venue launched in partnership with major derivatives banking clients and now trading SONIA futures.

Prior to the LSEG, David worked for Thomson Reuters, Accenture and KPMG. He has also been a keen and successful technology angel investor since 2002.
